The UPS overlay provides uninterrupted power to the Raspberry Pi Zero minicomputer, thanks to the Li-Pol battery, when the power from the Raspberry Pi Zero power supply fails, the overlay will maintain power using the battery. The output voltage from the overlay is 5 V. The Raspberry Pi Zero is powered through the pogo pins located on the overlay. Additionally, the HAT allows you to charge the included battery pack through the microUSB connector. It uses an I2C interface for communication, which allows reading battery parameters such as voltage, current consumption and percentage of charge.
