The softstarter is intended for the so-called soft start of devices powered by 230V mains voltage. 50Hz. The system prevents the generation of a current pulse in the transformer windings. that appears when you turn it on to the network. This impulse matters. when the transformer power is greater than 200W. When connecting a system with a high-power transformer to the network. connected to it by a bridge and capacitors. the current consumed by it is greater than its rated current. causing the fuses to trip. which will disconnect our power supply.

This is especially troublesome in the case of. when a computer and a machine controller are connected to one power strip. If the fuse trips, the computer will turn off, causing the loss of unsaved data. By using the Softstarter system, we eliminate this situation and we can work without any worries on the computer and machine controller connected to one power strip (one fuse). When the device is connected to the mains, current initially flows through high-power resistors (causing a soft start). and then the relay turns on all the power to the receiver and it is fully powered.

The soft starter is made on the basis of a generally available transformerless power supply application. The entire system and the transformer connected to it are protected by a 5A fuse. The transformer power can reach up to 2kW (then the fuse should have a value > 9A).

ARK 1.5 mm² connectors with a maximum voltage of 250V and a forward current of 16A were used to make connections to external devices. Components. from which the Softstart module is made meet the European Union's RoHS directive (Restriction of use of certain Hazardous Substances) regarding environmental protection. The device is made using lead-free technology. The binder used to assemble the device contains 99% tin and 1% copper.

Advantages of the Softstart module:
  • low cost.
  • small dimensions.
  • 230 V AC power supply. 50 Hz.
  • possibility of connecting a transformer with a power of up to 2kW.
  • versatility of applications.
  • simple operation.
  • easy assembly.
  • favorable price/quality/opportunity ratio

Operation of the Softstart module

Connecting the soft start system

To properly install the Softstarter system into the application, simply power it with 230VAC and connect the primary winding of the transformer to the TRAFO pins. The diagram is shown below.

Attention !!!
There is dangerous mains voltage on the board. Connections and maintenance of the soft start module should be made with the power supply disconnected.

At higher transformer powers, the resistors on the board may heat up. This should be taken into account when installing the module in the controller housing.

Tips

In case the Softstart module does not work properly. the first step should be to check whether the problem is electrical or mechanical (lack of connections). It is important to. to document every step in solving the problem. You may need to use this documentation at a later date. and the details contained therein will greatly help our Technical Support employees solve the problem.

Assembly tips: We recommend starting the assembly by soldering the smallest elements. i.e. jumpers (marked with straight lines). then we move on to larger and larger resistors. diodes. capacitors etc. Schematic diagram of the Softstart module Requirements

Installation personnel must have basic knowledge of how to handle electrical equipment. The device should be installed in closed rooms in accordance with environmental class I. with normal air humidity (RH = 90% max. without condensation) and temperature in the range of 0°C to +50°C.
