The RP2040 is the first microcontroller developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. It was first used in the Raspberry Pi Pico module and in modules from other manufacturers, including Arduino, which unveiled its Arduino Nano RP2040 Connect module. It is a very powerful chip, based on a dual-core ARM Cortex M0+ processor clocked at 133 MHz. It has 264 kB of built-in SRAM, unique programmable I/O (PIO) and other popular communication interfaces. Detailed documentation, a fine-tuned MicroPython port and the UF2 bootloader located in ROM allow even novice users and hobbyists to get started with the microcontroller. The RP2040 microcontroller has been manufactured using a modern 40 nm technology process. It provides high performance, low power consumption, with multiple low-power modes that allow the chip to run on battery power for long periods of time. The microcontroller is housed in a QFN-56 enclosure.
