An encoder is a device that converts rotational motion into a sequence of pulses. Inside there is a precise optical system with a laser-cut code disc. The use of an encoder allows you to measure the number of revolutions, rotational speed, distance, acceleration and direction of rotation

A very common use of an encoder is to connect it to a screw or a measuring roller, which allows measuring the displacement of linear elements. e.g. shifting distance or shifting speed.

Encoders are very often used in industrial automation to automate certain activities, of course in combination with an appropriate controller.

The PIB3806-1024-G5-24C incremental encoder has an axis with a diameter of 6 mm. The encoder resolution is 1024 imp/rev in two channels A and B and additionally has a Z channel enabling the determination of the reference position of the encoder. A wide range of supply voltages from 5V to 24V and an open collector (OC) type enable the encoder to be used in many devices and very simple connection. The 1.8 m long connection cable leading from the side of the housing is equipped with a screen that protects the signals coming from the encoder against interference. The encoder can operate at a rotation speed of up to 6000 r/min, the maximum signal frequency generated at the output is 100 kHz. Operating temperature range -10 degrees C to +70 degrees C.

At the outputs of the incremental encoder, the waveforms of channels A and B are shifted in phase by 90 degrees. This allows you to determine the direction in which the encoder rotates. The signal at the Z output is generated once per full revolution of the encoder. This allows you to establish a baseline.
